Kim Smith

Chicago-city based performer and educator Kim Smith is a dynamic and soulful vocalist known for her captivating stage presence and vocal versatility.  Born (Kimberly Walton) on July 28 of 1961, Kim had always been a lover of music and while growing up in a home filled with the sounds of Gospel music, she knew that she was destined to become a singer.  Kim began her musical journey singing in the church choir perfecting her craft performing as backup for gospel groups on her mother’s radio station.  By her senior year of high school, Kim honed her skills further enrolling in poetry and creative writing classes noting Nikki Giovanni as her personal favorite.  After college graduation, Kim performed with The Chicago Mass Choir before singing in local night clubs where she was given the opportunity to open for Funk and R&B singer ‘Roger’ of The Zapp Band.  Currently, Kim is an artist for Turn Out Records LLC fulfilling her dream of writing and singing her own songs.  When she’s not performing, Kim dedicates herself to songwriting and collaborating with other writers and musicians always pushing the boundaries of the craft.  Her passion for music, combined with her authentic storytelling, will continue to resonate with many listeners around the world.
